The Rheinturm
History
The Rheinturm (built 1979-1982, architect H. Deilmann) is the striking landmark of Düsseldorf's Rhine skyline. It stands on the edge of the southern city center at the entrance to the Media Harbour, directly next to the North Rhine-Westphalia State Parliament and the WDR broadcasting center. At a height of 172.5 meters, it houses the QOMO restaurant with 144 seats along the window front, which rotates 360 degrees every 72 minutes. Below is the M168 observation deck (168 m) with a snack bar and event spaces offering breathtaking views of the Rhine metropolis: Media Harbour, the Old Town, the Hofgarten park, Königsallee, and the Rhine with its numerous bridges lie at the foot of the Rhine Tower. On a clear day, the view extends as far as Cologne Cathedral. Two public elevators transport visitors to the various levels at a speed of 4 m/s.
